PBPP educates that Pit Bull's are social dogs and they want to be indoors with their families and they should be. Life on a chain can be very detremental to the dog and his family .However in this hard economic times we understand that sometimes a loving and responsible owner has no other choice and thier dog has to live on a chain due to certain circumstances. If you have no other choice than to chain your dog then do so responsibly.
Please make sure that the dog has adequate shelter from the ever chainging weather conditions. If you can build a kennel this would be even better as it would protect your dog from stray dogs and or uninvited humans who might wonder into the dogs area. Make sure that your dog has food and water at all times, has a safety no tangle device and that you walk and socailize your dog everyday. Make sure that when you are at home that the dog spends more time off the chain than on.
Please do not tie your dog to the fence as many dogs have hung themselves trying to jump over the fence they are tied to . Their chains get tangled or thier collar gets caught. Strangulation is a horrible death that can be prevented with a little forethought.
Pit Bulls that live their life chained in the backyard are prone to develop problem behaviors. A chained dog is vulnerable and feels tormented, by everything passing by him. (Every child who wishes to tease or torment the dog, stray animals that pass by freely, etc.) These dogs often are bored, frustrated, depressed, angry and lack needed exercise. The majority of Pit Bull Attacks that are in the news are from dogs who live life secluded (chained up, caged, etc.) and never got a chance to be a dog , a family pet or to explore the outside world.
