House bill HB 543 filed 12/2009
House Bill 543 would allow local governments to create their own breed-specific dog regulations which can affect all breeds of dogs and the main focus will be on large breed dogs : Pit bulls, Rottwielers, Bull dogs.
As we assumed, Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) has reared its ugly head again in FL. The bill filed in the House on Dec. 28th by Rep. Thurston (HB0543) now has an identical 'companion' bill in the Senate, filed Sen. Hill. Senate 1276: Relating to Dangerous Dogs The original House bill was assigned to Committees last week.
The committee members will hold at least one public hearing on the bill before voting on it. If they vote to recommend the bill, it will move to the House for a full vote. If they do not recommend the bill , it will die in committee. The goal is to prevent it from leaving committee .
